ELLIOT Lee has been ruled out for at least two months with the hamstring injury he suffered in his very first training session with Southend United.
The 19-year-old striker is on loan at the Shrimpers from West Ham United until late January.
And boss Phil Brown is now in discussions with the Hammers to determine Lee’s future at Roots Hall.
“It’s very unfortunate for all concerned that Elliot is going to be out for at least two months and we’re now trying to sort out what happens next,” said Brown.
“Hopefully we can come to a financial agreement to save us some money but we will have to also decide what happens with Elliot too.
“The paperwork has gone through so he’s our player for the next three months but a lot will depend on how he obviously recovers from the injury.”
Brown insisted Lee had been fully fit when he came to Blues last Friday.
And he could not believe it when the striker was forced to the sidelines just half an hour into training.
“It was just unbelievably bad luck and there’s certainly no-one to blame,” said Brown.
“West Ham wanted him to improve as a player by coming to us, Elliot saw it as a chance to kick start his career and I was delighted to bring in a very good striker too.
“It’s bad news for all us that he’s now injured and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
But, in Lee’s absence at Mansfield Town last weekend, Myles Weston partnered Barry Corr in attack and they both impressed in a 2-1 win.
The duo now look set to start again against Chester in the FA Cup this weekend and Brown believes they have the makings of a good partnership.
“They were both excellent on Saturday and I think they work well together,” said Brown.
“With Barry’s height and Myles’ pace there is the makings of something there and I remember them playing well together against Stevenage earlier on in the season as well.
“Graham Westley praised them highly when he spoke to me after the game and we could well have got a partnership going there now which would be great news."

Hopefullly thatll see an end west ham old boy nepitismn...out of the sons and younger brothers in recent years only anton ferdinand and dan potts have made the 1st team with anton the only success.
